Bob B. Buchanan graduated cum laude with his B.A. from Emory & Hale College in 1958 and received his Ph.D. in Microbiology
from Duke University in 1962. He began teaching at the University of California, Berkeley in 1962, serving as Chair of the
Division of Microbial Biology from 1996-1999, and Chair of the Department of Plant & Microbial Biology from 1998-1999.
